Wikis

Do you ever use Wikipedia? That's wiki technology. Many can work together to build knowledge, collaborate on ideas, and create a community that uses the collected knowledge and then also contributes to the knowledge community.Wikis allow online collaboration (adding and editing content) on documents and / or projects.

In this session, we will explore how a wiki can be used in collaborative projects with students and fellow teachers.

 Wikis in Plain English

Two free wikis will be experimented with at camp:

The Tech Camp for Teachers wiki is built with PBwiki

A wiki can be used with students to

  • increase student engagement using a safe online wiki
  • showcase your students' work online
  • eliminate excuses of lost homework
  • have a central place for your group to collaborate

Take a look at Mrs. Huff's English Class wiki Mrs. Huff's site uses Wikispaces

You can use a wiki for you to

  • put your files and thoughts so you can access them anywhere
  • to partner with others to share best practices on collaboration
  • to build content together

Here's a Wikispaces walk-through tutorial.
